Fundraising Letters that Work
I happened to see a Bush '04 fundraising e-mail today, from Ken Mehlman, with the heading "Foreign liberal cash used to defeat President Bush!" Most of it is just further innuendo about the Drudge-generated phony scandal around the website, Canadians for Clark..
But there is also one priceless line in the e-mail:
Wesley Clark, who was in Europe when Saddam Hussein was captured, criticized the President this week...
Wow, what was Mr. Clark doing in Europe, when he's supposed to be an American? Probably judging a Gruyere-tasting contest, or studying up on Swedish land-use planning...
You wouldn't really know that he was helping bring another evil dictator to justice, would you?
Updated:Here's the complete e-mail, for those interested

Dear ,
In my last e-mail I told you wealthy liberals, led by billionaire George Soros, plan to spend $400 million to defeat President Bush. Now comes word that Soros and his anti-war allies are soliciting foreign money to use against President Bush.
Help us overcome the Democrats' liberal billionaire by making your contribution and emailing five friends today!
One group Soros supports is telling liberal foreign donors they have "a chance to defeat [Bush] -- even if you are not an American." Read more at:

To beat these billionaire liberals and the flood of foreign money they're encouraging, we need your help today!
Please help us reach our goal of 450,000 AMERICAN grassroots contributors to the Presidents campaign by sending $100, $75, $50, $25 or whatever you can afford today by contributing online at:

If you thought liberal special interest groups raising foreign cash to attack our President was bad enough ... Democrat presidential candidates are doing it too!
Web sites for Wesley Clark and Howard Dean direct visitors from outside the United States to liberal fundraising Web sites where foreign donors can pledge money to fund left-wing efforts to defeat President Bush.
This news comes days after Democrat candidate Howard Dean floated the absurd conspiracy theory that President Bush knew of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, saying, "The most interesting theory that I've heard so far ... is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis."
It doesn't stop there. This week, Dean declared that, "The capture of Saddam has not made America safer.
And Dean is not the only Democrat making such reckless charges. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on Sunday floated the theory to a FOX News correspondent, "that the Bush administration has Osama bin Laden hidden away somewhere and will bring him out before the election."
Wesley Clark, who was in Europe when Saddam Hussein was captured, criticized the President this week and said that rather than going after Saddam, he would have let the United Nations continue to seek the dictator's cooperation. Clark also declared that, "Weapons of mass destruction are no longer a threat to the United States."
Democrats will do or say anything to defeat our President -- wild accusations, reckless conspiracy theories, and now raising money from foreign, anti-American activists!
We need your help to overcome these attacks!
With your help, we can overcome these slanderous liberal attacks and make clear that foreign cash will not be allowed to determine the outcome of this election.
Contribute $100, $75, $50, $25 or whatever you can afford by using our secure online server at:
http://www.GeorgeWBush.com/Grassroots/
Or by calling the President's re-election campaign at 1-800-531-6789.
Federal law allows contributions of up to $2,000 per person or $4,000 per couple. And, please, only U.S. citizens.
We cannot let liberal soft money groups defeat President Bush! He has led our country through challenging times with inner strength, a steely resolve and moral purpose.

Thank you for helping to re-elect President Bush in 2004!
Sincerely,
Ken Mehlman

Presidential Talking Points for

The George W. Bush Record Exposed:
Nothing but Lies, Deceptions, and
Crimes against Humanity
These Talking Points describe what every thinking American already knows: The vast majority of the American
people are suffering, and they are disgusted
with the unjust, inept, corrupt, and
often criminal activities of the
Bush administration.
These Talking Points also show that Bush policies and wars have rendered America, and the rest of the world far less safe, and
far more vulnerable to future terrorist attacks.
If you have ever wondered just what is going wrong in America, please think about this. On a single day, February 24th, 2004 Bush’s Secretary of Education called the 2.7 million member
National Education Association a “terrorist organization,”
and Federal Reserve chair, Alan Greenspan, declared
that Social Security payments must be cut to pay
for the Bush tax giveaways to the wealthy.
-Associated Press, February 24, 2004
“If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be.”
– Thomas Jefferson
“Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.”
– Benjamin Franklin
“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country…corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.” – Abraham Lincoln
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders,
that is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and
denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the
country to danger. It works the same in every country.”

1. Bush Flip-Flops: A Wee Sampler:
Bush says, “The most important thing is to find Osama bin Laden.” Instead, he orders the invasion of Iraq and says, “I don’t know where bin Laden is, and I don’t care; meanwhile, bib Laden and al Qaeda regroup and continue their slaughter of innocent people. He says he is against a Department of Homeland Security; then he creates the biggest bureaucracy in American history. He says he is against a 9/11 commission; he then forms a 9/11 commission. He says he will fund first responders; he then neglects to do that. He says we are invading Iraq because Saddam Hussein’s WMD pose an imminent threat; when no WMD are found, he says we invaded Iraq because Saddam is a bad guy and we must export democracy to Iraq. He says he is against nation building, then he starts rebuilding Afghanistan and Iraq. He calls our soldiers heroes, but then fails to attend a single funeral and cuts the pay and benefits of the survivors. He says he is against a WMD investigation; then he changes his mind. He says deficits are bad for the nation; he then creates the largest federal deficits in history. He promotes tax cuts for all, but instead enriches those who are already wealthy. He says he will not negotiate with North Korea and then opens negations with them. He says he will be the “education president” and then cuts funds for education and his Secretary of Education calls the teacher’s union a terrorist organization. He says he will fund an accelerated program to fight AIDS in Africa; instead, he does nothing. He says he is a free trader and then imposes tariffs on steel. He says he will root out corruption in government and then favors no-bid contracts for Halliburton and becomes the subject of numerous criminal investigations. He says his White House will not leak and then his White House intentionally outs an undercover CIA agent specializing in WMD (a major felony). He says states’ rights ought to govern same-sex marriage; then he proposes a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. He poses as a fighter pilot; it turns out that he shirked his wartime military obligation. He says he is a “compassionate conservative,” and then proceeds to cut every vital program for the needy and proposes cutting Social Security and Medicare. He says he is a man of God and then proceeds to order our soldiers into phony wars, and tens of thousands of innocent men, women, and children are maimed and murdered. He say he will run a clean campaign; instead, he uses his $200 million dollar campaign war chest to in a failing effort to demean Senator John Kerry, who just happens to be a real American hero. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
2. Bush Economic Stewardship is More Inept than that of Herbert Hoover:
Bush economic policy is transforming America into a third world nation. Bush inherited an economy that had set records for domestic job growth, 22 million new jobs from 1993 to 2000. But under Bush America has lost 3 million jobs and there is no end in sight. He is actively encouraging the exporting of American jobs to cheap labor markets overseas. He will say and do anything to please his giant corporate sponsors.
Gregory Mankiw, chair of Bush’s Council of Economic Advisors says, “Outsourcing in the long run is likely a good thing for the economy.” Apparently, Mankiw did not include America’s workers and families in his idea of what is good for the American economy and has since apologized. – Alan Abelson, Barron’s, February 16, 2004.
Under Bush and Greenspan the value of the dollar has fallen dramatically, down as much as 50% against competing nations like Australia, China, Germany, and France. That means that foreign investors can buy the shares of American corporations at steep discounts and they are doing just that. It is only these steep discounts and not value that have propped up American share prices. Instead of achieving some degree of financial security under Bush, Americans are now far more vulnerable to the whims of foreign investors who can pull out at any time and devastate our markets, investment, and retirement accounts.
Under Bush’s inept stewardship of the economy, Americans are suffering increasing joblessness, increasing poverty, increasing personal bankruptcies, lower wages, higher taxes, higher energy costs, higher medical care costs, higher tuition costs, higher credit card debt, and greater financial insecurity than at any time since Herbert Hoover and the Great Depression.
Why won’t Bush listen to his former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill and resign his failed presidency? Americans must put an end to Bush-led economic class warfare before the neocons destroy over 200 years of American progress. Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich explained O’Neill’s public exposure of Bush incompetence by saying O’Neill was appalled by what he saw.
Well, the American people are also appalled. What is conservative about driving the American people off a cliff and into bankruptcy? A construction worker, unemployed for three years, hit the nail on the head when in Washington Journal he said, “What working person in their right mind would vote to hurt their families?” Those who should be outsourced are Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Mankiw and their neocon cohorts.
3. Bush is Toast: Independent and Republican Voters are Crossing Over:
The American people are not fools. The vast majority of Americans are dismayed by the steady stream of Bush lies, deceptions, and high crimes. Many that voted for Bush now find themselves repulsed to learn they had voted for a pathological liar. The truth is steadily emerging and like an old bathrobe, the Bush regime is rapidly unraveling. In ever-increasing numbers, Republicans and independent voters are turning their backs on Bush. Here is what a few of them who are crossing over have said:
-Sergeant Camilo Mejia has refused to return to Iraq. Shaken by the killing of innocent civilians, he says, “I’m prepared to go to prison. This is an oil-driven war, and I don’t think any soldier signs up to fight for oil.” Mejia is a naturalized U.S. citizen who has served for eight years in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He is joined by two medics who think the idea of killing is revolting. –Associated Press, march 16, 2004.
-Bill Flanagan, semi-retired Republican newspaper worker, “The combination of lies and boys coming home in body bags is just too awful. I could vote for Kerry. I could vote for any Democrat unless he’s a real dummy.
-An Ohio Republican couple, one a judge, one a teacher, both very active in local Republican politics, “I feel like a complete traitor, and if you asked me four months ago, the answer would have been different.. But we are really disgusted. It’s the lies, the war, the economy. We have very good friends who are staunch Republicans, who don’t want to hear the name George Bush anymore.”
-George Meagher, Republican and founder of the American Military Museum, Charleston, South Carolina, “I threw my heart and soul into the Bush campaign in 2000. Given the outcome and how dissatisfied I am with the administration, it’s hard to think about now. People like me, we’re all choking a bit at not supporting the president. But when I think about 500 people killed and what we’ve done to Iraq. And what we’ve done to our country. I mean, we’re already $2 trillion in debt.”
–Above quotes gathered from New York Times article of February 22, 2004 entitled Disenchanted Bush Voters Consider Crossing Over, by Elisabeth Rosenthal.
-Yoshi Tsurmi, Professor of International Business, Baruch College, says he vividly remembers Bush as a student of his at Harvard Business School. He remembers Bush declaring that FDR’s New Deal is socialism, that people are poor because they are lazy, and that he was opposed to Social Security, Medicare, labor unions, public schools, and environmental protection. –Institute of Global Communication, March 1, 2004.
Bush lied to us about being a “compassionate conservative.” Bush was never compassionate about anything but boozing in Texas bars. On Election Day, November 2, 2004, the only people who will vote for Bush are those who are ignorant of his miserable record and those who value corporate interests over those of the vast majority of the American people. Most Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy, the health care crisis, and the War on Iraq. They also disapprove of his huge budget deficits, his desire to cut Social Security and Medicare, his phony prescription drug program, and his approach to same-sex marriage.
4. Bush has Greatly Exaggerated the Global Terrorist Threat:
While 3,000 people died on 9/11, deaths that Bush could have prevented, Bush’s pro-war and anti-environmental measures will help kill over 30,000 Americans a year. Prior to, and after 9/11, global terrorism claimed an average of 400 lives a year worldwide and none on American soil. Meanwhile, American tobacco company products kill millions of people each year. Bush has used 9/11 in a failed effort to inflate his deflated presidency.
–Sources are far too numerous to list but do include the recent comments of retired chief United Nations weapons inspector Dr. Hans Blix, U.S. State Department reports on global terrorism, and tobacco company admissions that tobacco products are killers.
5. Bush TV Ads are Intentionally Designed to Hide His Miserable Record:
Would a real president need to spend $200 million on TV advertising to deceive the electorate? A real president would run on his record of accomplishment. But Bush is no real president and his accomplishments, as recorded here and below, are nauseating. Bush has sent our sons and daughters to fight a phony war in Iraq and then refuses to attend their funerals. He has transformed a huge federal budget surplus into the largest federal deficits in America’s history. He told us he cut our taxes when he actually handed
America’s middle-income families the largest tax increase in history. He favors outsourcing American jobs, corporate welfare for Halliburton, eliminating overtime, cutting Social Security and veteran’s benefits, and devastating the environment. He says we are safer with him as president, but his own CIA director says we are far less safe.
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why does Bush insist on inserting the caskets of those he ignores into his TV self-promotion ads? Columnist Jimmy Breslin says Bush is “molesting the dead.” Can we afford to entrust a compassionless spoiled C- student who shirked his wartime military obligation with the leadership of the free world? Halliburton, a known war-profiteer, now under numerous criminal investigations, was caught red-handed defrauding the U.S. Army and every American taxpayer. But even though Halliburton will no longer supply fuel to the U.S. Army in Iraq, Bush refuses to cancel all of Halliburton’s government contracts. Why…because Vice President Cheney’s multi-million stock option deal with Halliburton will become worthless.
6. Bush is Thanked for His Phony Compassion by a Real American Family:
A mother from Durham, New Hampshire writes, “Bush’s generous tax cuts have put an extra $8 into my monthly pay. Our property taxes have increased $1000 this year. Our son’s college tuition was raised 9%. My husband’s employer raised our health care contribution 400%. My daughter who graduated from college last spring can’t find a job that pays more than $7.50 an hour. She has no health insurance, and since she can only find low paying jobs without benefits, she is unable to repay her college loans, so we are making those payments for her. Thank you George W. Bush for your compassionate concern for the middle class.”
As this typical American family well knows, the so-called Bush tax cuts are nothing but a vast scam, a Bush-led looting of the U.S. Treasury that has greatly expanded the gap between those who are already wealthy and middle-America. We might add that since Bush invaded Iraq gasoline and home heating oil prices have also soared.
7. Bush, George W: The W Stands for AWOL # 1:
Bush denies the allegation that he avoided portions of his military obligation, including service in Vietnam, by deserting from the Air National Guard, and then used his father’s political connections to avoid prosecution by court-martial.
Two former members of Bush’s ANG squadron say Bush never showed up for duty and instead worked on the U.S. Senate campaign of a family friend. Bob Mintz, a FedEx pilot said, “There’s no way we wouldn’t have noticed a strange rooster in the henhouse, especially since we were looking out for him.” Paul Bishop, who now flies for Kalitta Airline, added, “I never saw hide nor hair of Mr. Bush.” - The Memphis Flyer, February 13, 2004.
The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) has no statute of limitation governing desertion in time of war, thus had Bush been court-martialed and convicted he could have received the death penalty.
That Bush used family connections to join the ANG and avoid service in Vietnam is not the major issue. Many Republican men of privilege did just that. But for Bush to pose as a real commander-in-chief by staging a chauffeured landing on an aircraft carrier after lying about why America invaded Iraq and lying about his own military service is indicative of the depths of his low character.
– New York Times editorial, February 11, 2004
– Washington Post, July 28, 1999, Boston Globe, October 31, 2000, Boston Globe, November 3, 2000.
– See a recent interview with the Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Walter Robinson who broke this story at www.democracynow.org.
Shedding light on the White House cover-up of Bush’s true military record, retired Lt. Colonel Bill Burkett has come forward to say that he witnessed a Bush aide and a Texas Air National Guard general conspire to trash “any military records that would embarrass the governor,” and that he later witnessed Bush’s military records in a trash can at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas. – AP, February 12, 2004.
On Meet the Press, Bush promised to come clean, and to make public his full military record. Well, the American people are waiting. How long will it take? Why the long delay? Everyone who actually served can remember details of their military service.
So far, Bush has turned over only tattered documents that raise new questions, and answer nothing. He has entirely failed to demonstrate just what military service he performed. Instead of proving he fulfilled his military obligation, he has proved yet another fraud, Lt. Bush receiving military pay for doing absolutely nothing.
- Washington Post, February 14, 2004.
For Bush to put this matter to rest, he must give the American people the specifics of his military service (what he did, when and where he did it, and with whom), or admit that he intentionally walked away from his wartime military obligation.
8. Bush, George W: The W Stands for AWOL # 2:
Bush and Cheney knew. They deliberately lied big time about 9/11. They were told 9/11 was imminent, and, whether with intent or not, they were asleep at the helm. The post-9/11 record clearly shows presidential gross negligence, and perhaps even complicity in 9/11. The slowly unfolding tale of what really happened on and before 9/11 will be mind-boggling. Bush deliberately and repeatedly lied to us saying he had received no warnings that a 9/11-type attack was imminent, when, in fact, there were numerous credible warnings. Americans deserve better. We deserve to know precisely what Bush knew about 9/11, and when he knew it. If Bush knew 9/11 was imminent, and did nothing to protect us, or worse, if he was complicit in the attack, he deserves to be impeached and imprisoned. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
After failing to protect us from the 9/11 attack, Bush had the audacity to launch his 2004 presidential campaign with a doctored TV ad that portrays him as the nations’ protector against terrorism when it was his inept leadership and heavy vacation schedule that failed the American people on 9/11. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Bush has logged more vacation time than any other president. While Bush was asleep at the helm, ignoring the 9/11 terrorists, Attorney General Ashcroft was cutting anti-terrorism defense spending and Bush was sending millions of dollars worth of weapons to the Afghani Taliban and bin Laden’s al Qaeda. – Eric Margolis, Toronto Sun, January 1, 2004.
Recently, former Republican governor of New Jersey and chair of the official 9/11 investigating commission, Thomas Kean said, that with real leadership, 9/11 would have been prevented. Governor Kean said publicly that 9/11 could have and should have been prevented. “This was not something that had to happen.” Governor Kean closed the interview promising additional revelations in the near future, but, the next day, in a follow-up interview on ABC’s Nightline, he appeared far more cautious; you could almost see Karl Rove’s and Dick Cheney’s heel prints on his face.
– Excerpted from an interview with Governor Kean by Randall Pinkston for CBS Evening News, December 17, 2003.
Why did Bush and his national security advisor, who has a Chevron oil tanker named after her, ignore numerous credible warnings that an attack on 9/11 was imminent? Why was Bush spending so much time vacationing in Texas just prior to 9/11? Why did Bush fail to alert the American people that the 9/11 attack was imminent? Why,
just before leaving for vacation on August 6, 2001,—a full 36 days prior to 9/11—did Bush tell his Director of Counter-Terrorism that he wanted no further briefings on al Qaeda’s terrorist plans? Why did Bush continue reading a goat story to children in a Florida schoolroom long after he was told that America had been attacked? Why Did Bush lie to reporte4rs about when he first learned of the 9/11 attack? Why are so many Bush supporters, including close family members, reaping staggering profits from his War of Terror?
Many Americans now view the Bush War of Terror as an evolving global nightmare for everyone except for Republican neocons who personally reap vast profits from perpetual pre-emptive war. Real conservatives want less government intervention in their lives; instead Bush gives us a War of Terror.
9. Bush and Cheney Knew: They Deliberately Lied Big Time about Their
Reasons for Invading Iraq (Words of Mass Deception):
George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Colin Powell deliberately and repeatedly lied about Iraqi WMD; a full accounting of their lies would fill several books. The biggest and most oft told lies were that Iraq had and was amassing WMDs (chemical and biological), that Iraq posed an imminent threat to America, and that Iraq would soon have nuclear weapons. Recently, the Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board has concluded that Bush’s claim that Iraq was seeking uranium was bogus and merely an act of desperation in an effort to mislead the American people into thinking Iraq posed an imminent nuclear threat. – Washington Post, December 24, 2003.
Some of the evidence Bush used to support the invasion was forged; for example; the document purporting to prove that Iraq was attempting to purchase uranium from Nigeria is dated October, 2000 and bears the signature of a Nigerian foreign minister who had not been foreign minister since 1989. – ABC News, July 16, 2003.
Other evidence was intentionally withheld. Senator Carl Levin now says that the administration by withholding certain vital evidence about purported Iraqi WMD intentionally misled Congress, the United Nations, and the American people.
– New York Times, February 21, 2004.
On May 28, 2003 Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz (a self-proclaimed neocon hawk and leading proponent of the Iraqi invasion) said, “We settled on weapons of mass destruction as justification for invading Iraq because it was the one reason we could all agree on.” -U.S. Department of Defense, May 28, 2003
Recently Dr. Hans Blix quit as head of the WMD search team in Iraq saying that “nothing even remotely resembling WMD have been found and the war in Iraq is illegal.” These remarks were confirmed another lead inspector David Kay. Kay said no WMD were found in Iraq because there were none produced since the early 1990’s. Kay went even further and said, “Bush, Cheney, Powell, Rumsfeld, and Rice lied, they used Rumsfeld’s Office of Special Plans to cook CIA intelligence to their own liking.”
-Guardian, March 3, 2004. Following are a small sample Bush’s whopping lies:
- “Right now, Iraq is expanding and improving facilities that were used for the
- production of biological weapons.” – United Nations Address, September 12, 2002.
- “Iraq has stockpiled biological and chemical weapons, and is rebuilding the facilities used to make more of those weapons.” – Radio talk, October 5, 2002.
- “We know that the regime has produced thousands of tons of chemical agents…and is targeting America with them. They are also reconstituting their nuclear weapons program.” – Speech, Ohio, October 7, 2002.
- “Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised.” – Address to the nation, March 17, 2003.
-
We now know with certainty that everything Bush told us about his reasons for invading Iraq were blatant lies because:
- During the first week of February 2004, the heads of the CIA and the DIA have declared that they never told Bush Iraq was an imminent threat. And Colin Powell now says that absent WMD, America should not have invaded Iraq.
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
- Bush began planning for the invasion just days after taking office, including the use of American soldiers. Long before 9/11 Bush said, “Go find me a way to do this.” He then used 9/11 as an excuse and intentionally fooled the American people into thinking that Saddam Hussein was responsible for the attack.
– Former Bush Treasury Secretary under Bush, Paul O’Neill, in an interview with CBS News, January 9, 2004.
- after a five month search, 1,400 U.S.-led United Nations WMD discovery investigators came up empty-handed in Iraq;
- Bush was caught red-handed using forged documents to justify the invasion;
- February 24, 2001, in Cairo, Secretary of State Colin Powell declared, “Saddam Hussein has not developed any significant capability with respect to WMD. He is (even) unable to project conventional power against his neighbors.”
Why Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Powell lied to us is now known. Recently, Bush told us that he wanted to use Iraq as a base of operations to export democracy to the Middle East—nothing but another blatant lie. Some of the real reasons Bush had for invading Iraq are:
- to obtain control over Middle East oil and to build oil pipelines; a recently released British/American Joint Intelligence Committee report shows that Republican president Richard Nixon ordered the Defense Department to begin planning for the seizure Middle East oilfields over 30 years ago.
- Beth Gardiner, AP writer, January 1, 2004; New York Times, January 2, 2004.
- to award billions of dollars of no bid contracts to Cheney’s company, Halliburton, a company that is now being criminally investigated by the Pentagon’s Defense Criminal Investigation Service and the State Department for defrauding U.S. taxpayers by overcharging for their no-bid services and accepting bribes in Iraq.
– Reuters, February 23, 2004, December 31, 2003.
- to fool the American people into thinking he was a real leader, a real president, and a real commander-in-chief instead of an unrepentant military deserter;
- to fool the American people into thinking we need him to protect us from terrorists;
- and, most importantly, to further the neocon agenda for world domination by military and economic means by prosecuting a War of Terror on any nation that gets in America’s way.
Should the American people reelect a president who deliberately and repeatedly lies to the American people about matters as crucial as war and peace? Do Bush lies about his reasons for invading Iraq constitute a criminal act--possibly treason--and an impeachable offense? Bush lies about Iraq fooled 60% of the American people into thinking Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11, and that is why so many Americans once thought the invasion was justified. Bush diplomatic blunders, lies, and deceptions have convinced much of the world that America is the world’s leading terrorist nation. We must support our soldiers by bringing them home, not tomorrow, but today. Real conservatives value truth over lies.
***More American soldiers lost their lives in the first year since we invaded Iraq (over 600 as of March 17, 2004), more than in the first three years of our official involvement in Vietnam. - Reuters, November 13, 2003. And, it is estimated that 10,000 to 20,000 American soldiers have been wounded and medically evacuated from Iraq.
***British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw says that American and British soldiers will remain in Iraq until 2007. – New York Times, January 5, 2004.
***America’s invasion of Iraq is essentially a war fought by the underclass, financed by American workers, and all for the profit of super-rich Republican neocons.
-An idea advanced by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh in a speech on November 13, 2003.
10. Bush is Intentionally Driving Middle-America into Bankruptcy:
Bush created federal deficits, the largest in American history, are his sneaky way of driving America’s middle-income earners into bankruptcy. The Bush $500+ billion dollar deficit, which translates into $5 trillion dollars over the next 10 years, means vastly higher income taxes for all middle-income Americans.
Bush’s tripartite economic program for prosperity in America is: (a) to encourage consumer spending and debt so that Americans eventually lose their homes; (b) to export American jobs to China and India; (c) to lower wage rates, eliminate overtime and employee benefits so that Americans who still have jobs can compete against exploited employees abroad; to slash Social Security, Medicare, public schools, and vital services to provide yet another round of tax giveaways to those who are already wealthy.
Bush has transfigured the huge federal budget surplus created by Democrats into an endless sea of Republican red ink (federal deficits), thus saddling taxpaying families with an approximate federal debt of $125,000 a family, a debt that could rise to $250,000 or higher by 2015. Economists at neocon think tanks have figured out that saddling the middle class with massive debt will drive down wage rates and further enrich the already wealthy. The latest figures issued by the Congressional Budget Office show Bush deficit-financed spending are the highest since World War II. - Citizens for Tax Justice, June 11, 2003.
Why are we giving Bush carte blanche to drive America to the verge of bankruptcy and to transform our economy into that resembling a banana republic? What is conservative about setting out to destroy America’s low and middle-income groups? Bush now claims that he will work to halve the deficits. Another lie. But even if true, the lie is a deception because his own budget shows federal debt growing at $500-$650 billion a year over the next decade. Bush must be stopped before the America we know and love is completely destroyed..
11. Bush Tax Refunds are an Ugly Scam on Working Families:
Actually, the zero to $200 in tax relief that many middle-income earners did receive was more than offset by Bush-forced increases in local property and state taxes, tuition hikes, and increased energy costs. For example, under Bush property taxes have skyrocketed more than 27% in Dallas, 25% in Houston, and 18% in New York City. Meanwhile, the average millionaire (mostly Bush campaign contributors) received political payoffs (called tax cuts) averaging over $90,000 and many millions of impoverished and working-poor Americans have seen their Medicaid health insurance vanish. Amongst many other useful things, this taxpayer money could have funded:
- a real drug prescription program;
- universal access to necessary health care for the 45 million Americans, including over 9 million children, not presently insured;
- state budget shortfalls;
- the repair of our nation’s public schools;
- the elimination of homelessness;
- the clean up of toxic waste sites;
- provided Head Start to an additional 1.8 million children;
- AIDS research and provide community-based services;
- the Department of Homeland Security;
- research into countermeasures against bio-terrorism;
- 1.5 million affordable housing units;
- special education services for children with disabilities;
- extensive infrastructure jobs creation programs;
- working capital for start-up and small businesses;
- benefits for veterans;
- increases in Social Security payments.
- Salon, May 29, 2003, New York Times, December 31, 2003.
Even multi-billionaire investor Warren Buffet has declared that Bush tax breaks for his corporate sponsors are nothing but blatant class warfare and are destroying our hard-earned prosperity.
Why does the Bush looting of the U.S. Treasury, the most grievous theft in U.S. history, go unpunished? Much of what is amiss in America, primarily our joblessness, our growing levels of poverty, our burgeoning militarism, and our environmental neglect was ignored by Bush when he chose to use the taxes of working people to repay the bribes of his campaign contributors instead of protecting and providing for the vast majority of America’s people.
12. Bush is Waging War on America’s Children:
Bush promised to “leave no child behind,” and instead delivered nothing but distress in the form of an unfunded mandate that thwarts all efforts to level America’s educational playing field. By promising one thing and then doing the opposite (slashing $9 billion from aid to secondary schools), Bush is waging an all-out war on America’s children, particularly those that live in poverty, and those who are mentally or physically challenged. By the administration’s own estimates, by 2009 Bush tax giveaways to the wealthy will cripple every social service in America, with women and children being the hardest hit. – Washington Post editorial, February 8, 2004.
The Every Child Matters Education Fund has documented how Bush tax giveaways for his wealthy political supporters are injuring America’s children. Amongst many other things, under Bush:
- the premier early childhood program for disadvantaged preschoolers (Head Start) is threatened and under-funded.
- comprehensive health care services (CHIP) for children living in poverty is under-funded and threatened.
- after-school programs for children are under-funded and threatened, this even though over 7 million children are left home alone without supervision on a regular basis.
- welfare-to-work programs (TANF) are under-funded and threatened.
- literacy programs (Even Start) and pre-school grants for children with disabilities are frozen (IDEA).
- child counseling, dropout prevention, migrant high school equivalency, juvenile offender rehabilitation, and safe and drug free schools programs are all under-funded and threatened.
Cuts in programs for children result from the Bush administration’s shifting of national priorities, shifting spending away from programs to help children in favor of tax giveaways for those who are already rich. – For a detailed accounting of the Bush War on Children see www.everychildmatters.org, and current and archived press releases at the Children’s Defense Fund, www.cdfactioncouncil.org.
Why does Bush regularly promise one thing to the public and then do precisely the opposite thing in private? Why has Bush abandoned our neediest women and children? Why does Bush, who claims compassion for the needy, give them only the back of his hand and his heel? What Bush really means by “leave no child behind” is to take them off the streets and put them in prisons.
13. Bush Refuses to Cooperate with the Official 9/11 Investigating Commission:
Bush, even though he had personally pledged the cooperation of the executive branch of government to the chair of the official 9/11 investigating commission, had refused to cooperate, forcing the commission to resort to its subpoena power. Instead of fully cooperating, Bush has issued specific orders restricting the flow of vital documentary evidence to 9/11 commission. Now under heavy pressure from Senator John Kerry and others, Bush says he will cooperate. - See Eric Boehlert’s interview of Senator Max Cleland, a member of the official 9/11 congressional investigating commission, for details of the Bush 9/11 cover-up, Salon, November 21, 2003. -See, also, The New Pearl Harbor: Was the Bush Administration Complicit in 9/11? This new book by David ray Griffin, a theologian, makes an astonishingly strong showing of Bush motives for allowing 9/11 to happen.
Why is Bush stalling the official 9/11 investigation commission? Just what is it that he is trying to hide? We now know the documentary evidence shows that Bush knew far more about 9/11 than he has thus far admitted. The documentary evidence proves that Bush failed the American people on 9/11. The extent of that failure and the possible complicity of his administration in 9/11 are the only possible reasons for this extensive and continuing obstruction of justice.
14. Bush and Cheney are Pursuing a Policy of Economic Class Warfare:
Bush, Cheney and their giant corporate campaign contributors are aggressively pursuing economic policies that are nothing but blatant economic class warfare. Bush trade practices are driving Americans out of jobs (outsourcing) and manufacturing companies out of business, and giving large trade advantages to China and other countries.
- New York Times, August 18, 2003.
Under Bush and Cheney:
- well over one million people have been added to the poverty rolls;
- well over three million people have lost their jobs;
- over $2 trillion has been hijacked from Social Security;
- those who are already wealthy received over $2 trillion in tax giveaways;
- social programs for the needy have been slashed;
- the fifty states have been pressured to slash vital programs;
- well over one million people have lost their health insurance;
- about 45 million people are without access to necessary health care;
- more bankruptcies have been filed than under any other president;
- wage rates, overtime pay, and employment benefits for low and middle income
earners are under increasing downward pressure and are being slashed;
- job growth in America is the slowest in 50 years.
Recently, IBM announced it will export 5,000 high paying jobs to India and China and Kodak is eliminating 15,000 jobs. By the end of 2003, 10% of U.S.-based computer services jobs and 5% of all technology jobs will be exported to cheap labor markets overseas. If this trend continues, by 2010 well over 50% of America’s high tech jobs will have vanished, and America will have completed its transformation from an advanced to a Third World economy.- Wall Street Journal, December 15, 2003.
Why is Bush trying so hard to destroy American jobs, American wage rates, the social safety net, unions, and the American middle class? Americans must realize that economic globalization is nothing but a code phrase for the further enrichment of the already wealthy at the expense of American workers and retirees. America needs a strategic plan for wage and job growth and that plan should contain ways and means for withdrawing from NAFTA and the WTO. In his 2004 State of the Union address Bush touts a $500 million jobs creation program but fails to mention he has just cut $700 million from the very program he is touting. Say one thing, do the opposite, a Bush trademark.
15. Bush Actions upon Learning of the 9/11 Attack are Highly Suspect:
Bush continued reading a goat story to Florida schoolchildren for a nearly ½ hour after being informed by his chief of staff that America had been attacked on 9/11, and he has obstructed an investigation into whether or not NORAD (our first line of domestic defense) received orders to stand down, thereby entirely ignoring the 9/11 attack.
Bush’s former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill summed up Bush and his cabinets leadership skills by saying, “Bush was like a blind man in a roomful of deaf people.”
- Former Bush Treasury Secretary under Bush, Paul O’Neill, in an interview with CBS News, January 9, 2004.
Why did Bush fail to take immediate action on 9/11? It is hard to believe that an American president would continue reading a goat story to schoolchildren after being informed by his chief of staff that America was being attacked. Why did Bush lie about how he was informed of the 9/11 attack? Why was Bush in a Florida elementary school when he knew and attack on America was imminent? Bush’s failure to act leads to the conclusion that Bush had foreknowledge of the 9/11 terrorist attack and that is why news of the actual attack came as no surprise to him? It has been reported that Bush’s brother signed executive orders governing the application of martial law in Florida four days before 9/11.
16. Bush is Deliberately Stonewalling the Families of the Victims of 9/11:
Bush, showing utter disregard for family values, refuses to respond to the inquiries of the families of the 9/11 victims, instead calling their probing questions unimportant and unnecessary. With much of the mass media either cowed by the Bush regime, most of the important questions about 9/11 remain unanswered. Refusing to accept millions of dollars in Bush bribes to stay silent, some 74 families of the victims of 9/11 are suing Bush in order to learn what really happened on 9/11. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why is Bush, a self-proclaimed “compassionate conservative” so unresponsive to the questions of the families of the 9/11 victims? Why do hundreds of key 9/11 questions like why did NORAD fail to respond and why was WTC Building 7 demolished remain unanswered by the Bush administration? Why did Bush abandon “family values” in favor of neocon values? What is conservative about keeping secrets from the American people? Real conservatives want less governmental control over their lives and not a super-secretive government plotting against them.
17. Bush Concern for America’s National Security is Entirely Bogus:
Bush created the largest governmental bureaucracy in U.S. history and he named it the Department of Homeland Security (homeland is a Nazi term). The Bush family financial empire that helped create Bush’s political ascendancy has its roots in treasonous practices: Trading with and financing the Nazi’s and longstanding relationships with Saudi financiers of terrorism including the bin Laden family and the Carlyle Group, (named after Thomas Carlyle, considered by George Orwell the prophet of Nazi fascism). When Bush lied to us about his reasons for invading Iraq, and then ordered our soldiers into harms way based on those lies, that extended Bush family treasonous acts to a third generation, his generation.
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why, if Bush really cares about our national security, did he fail to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security, thus rendering it the Department of Homeland Insecurity? Why did Bush promise to increase funding for first responders, our first line of defense and then try to cut $1 billion from existing grants? Why did Bush fail to punish Saudi financiers of terrorism (Bush family friends) and help them flee from America the day following 9/11?
18. Bush has Deliberately Obstructed Justice in the Criminal Investigation of
White House National Security Leaks:
Bush or a member of his staff intentionally and vindictively leaked the name of an undercover CIA agent (a felony and breech of national security) to ultra-conservative pundit Bob Novak. The Bush people have obstructed justice by refusing to cooperate in the criminal investigation of White House personnel to find the leaker(s).
Finally, long after Ashcroft recused himself citing conflicts of interest, a special prosecutor (former U.S. attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald) has taken over the politically-
charged criminal investigation and a grand jury has been convened to hear and evaluate evidence of alleged Bush White House criminality. – MSNBC, December 30, 2003.
Why would Bush, the most secretive president in U.S. history, obstruct efforts to determine whom it was that leaked? Did Bush himself do the leaking? There is simply no excuse for not convening a grand jury. This leak and other intentional acts of the Bush administration, such as sending our troops into harms way based on nothing but self-serving lies, may constitute the gravest treasons ever committed in America.
19. The Bush-led Anti-Democratic Neocon (neoconservative = fascist) Agenda:
Bush and his neocon cohorts have set out to implement an anti- democratic, anti-worker, anti-environment agenda. Under the ruse of exporting democracy and freedom, the neocon agenda includes:
- American empire instead of American republic;
- world domination by pre-emptive military and economic means, the very same goals pursued by Hitler and Stalin.
- destroying the United Nations with a unilateral and bilateral approach to
implementing foreign policy and declaring pre-emptive elective wars;
- replacing democratic rule with corporate/neocon rule;
- increasing the power of the president to that of dictator;
- reducing civil and human rights to pre-Bill of Rights levels;
- exploiting labor and the environment to the fullest;
- outsourcing and exporting American jobs to cheap labor markets abroad;
- consolidating the media to reflect a single voice, the neocon voice;
- eliminating unions and driving wage rates, overtime, and benefits ever lower;
- destroying our meager social safety net, including Social Security and Medicare.
– See the origins of the neocon agenda at Project for a New American Century: Rebuilding America’s Defenses, www.newamericancentury.org. Long before 9/11, the neocons planned for the American invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq to secure oil and control the region. Bush neocons said that these invasions would not be supported by the American people without another Pearl Harbor. Was 9/11 planned and executed by Bush neocons to gain support for their elective wars?
Why does Bush want to eliminate overtime and drive wage rates lower and lower? Simply put, under Bush American workers are being transformed into Wal-Mart workers, people who work hard but do not earn a living wage, and who must apply for Food Stamps to help them make ends meet. If they could find a way to do it, Bush and Wal-Mart would be happy to export all of our jobs to India and China. What makes Bush think the American people support perpetual war and the destruction of the United Nations? In 2000 Bush said he was a uniter and not a divider. Well, he has succeeded at that and only that. He has united the entire world against us.
There is absolutely nothing in the neocon agenda that any thinking conservative or any other thinking person could support.
20. Bush Public Policy Favors only Wealthy Special Interest Groups:
Bush has sought to enrich heavily bankrolled special interest groups and giant multinational corporations by doling out lucrative no-bid contracts, creating numerous tax loopholes, and failing to prosecute corporate criminality. Meanwhile, federal spending as a percent of GDP, which decreased under Clinton, has soared under Bush who has failed to veto a single appropriations bill and has increased military spending to record levels. – Washington Post, December 6, 2003.
Under Bush, CEOs use corporate jets for personal travel, paying only $260 to travel from coast to coast. Their corporations then deduct the real cost of the trip as a business expense and working people end up picking up the tab, paying thousands of dollars in additional taxes every time a CEO boards a corporate aircraft. Another loophole, just one of hundreds, allows investment partnership profits to go untaxed. Closing the loophole is an easy matter; instead, it is ignored, and working people are left to pay the tax, which amounts to tens of billions of dollars every year.
– New York Sunday Times Magazine article entitled The Loophole Artist, by David Cay Johnson, December 21, 2003.
Why is Bush, a so-called conservative, on a spending spree that endangers the health and economic security of the vast majority of the American people? What is conservative about amassing triple digit sea of federal red ink (deficits) that extends well into the next decade?
21. Bush has Deliberately Set Out to Destroy Social Security and has Failed to
Protect the Pensions of Working People:
Bush is waging war on the elderly and on future generations of Americans with his intentional efforts to destroy Social Security. He has failed to do anything to protect the pension plans of retirees from unscrupulous employers and he has conspired with Senator Lindsay Graham to draft legislation that will begin privatizing Social Security in 2005.
- Los Angeles Times, November 30, 2003.
In his February 24, 2004 testimony before the House Budget Committee Bush Federal Reserve chair Greenspan proposed cutting Social Security payments. Reducing Social Security payments will enable the Bush neocons to launch yet another round of tax giveaways to their wealthy supporters.
Why won’t Bush realize that his plans to privatize and cut Social Security will lead to “Social Insecurity?” Why is the further enrichment of the wealthy more important to Bush than guarantying retirement with dignity for our seniors?
22. Bush Seeks to Fool Seniors and Destroy Medicare with his Phony Drug Bill:
In a recent survey of his audience, CNN’s Lou Dobbs asked his audience if they were better off after three years of George W. Bush; 94% answered NO.
Bush rammed a prescription drug bill through a Republican dominated Congress that will provide zero benefits for most seniors and actually serve to drive drug costs higher by encouraging the drug companies to raise prices and making the import of drugs from Canada illegal.
The Bush drug bill is deliberately designed to destroy Medicare by providing windfall profits to the drug, managed-care (HMOs), and the health insurance industries, the very industries that provide Republicans with windfall campaign contributions (bribes). Bush fooled the AARP into supporting the bill, an action they now wish they could reverse.
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why is Bush on a mission to fool seniors into thinking his phony prescription drug will benefit them? Why does Bush favor the giant drug companies over the health and well-being of the American people? Why are the working poor who cannot afford health insurance paying for the health insurance of their elected representatives?
23. Bush is Anti-Choice, Anti-Women’s Rights, and Anti-Civil and Gay Rights:
Bush is waging war on women and gays by aggressively appointing judges who seek to overturn Roe vs. Wade, and by supporting legislation that would narrow a woman’s right to choose and reverse the recent ruling of the Massachusetts Supreme Court that affirms the right to marry to all people. Bush also supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Bush has actually endorsed a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. –Reuters, February 24, 2004.
While the Congress was not in session, Bush recently appointed two right-wing judges to the federal bench. The Congress had previously voiced its disapproval of both appointees and Senator Patrick Leahy said, “Actions like this show the American people that this White House will stop at nothing to try to turn the independent judiciary into an arm of the Republican Party.” – AP, February 20, 2004.
Why does Bush feel justified in trying to impose his religious beliefs on women and gays? The American presidency is a political office and has no business meddling in religion. When unthinking Republicans like Bush seek to ban same-sex marriages they display their separatist/racist attitudes. Trying to defend the sanctity of marriage by banning gay marriage is akin to protecting voting rights by banning people of color from voting.
24. Bush has Looted the U.S. Treasury to Enrich His Wealthy Friends:
Bush looted the U.S. Treasury to the tune of $3 trillion to provide political payoffs to wealthy neocon special interest groups. Meanwhile, his political operatives are straight-arming these same special interest groups to raise $200-$400 million for his 2004 campaign. Bush publicly describes his looting of the U.S. Treasury as a tax cut for all Americans. In private he said, “Haven’t we already given money to rich people?”
- Quote from transcript of Economic Team meeting minutes obtained by former Bush Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill.
Why has it taken so long for the American people to say enough is enough? When will Americans rise up and demand an end to the blatant political bribery (huge campaign contributions) that fund Bush and his fellow neocons?
25. Bush is Contributing to the Spread of AIDS amongst our Youth:
Bush has come out against comprehensive sex education programs for our youth, leaving many children without adequate knowledge to make good decisions about their sexual health. Inadequate knowledge unnecessarily elevates their vulnerability to disease, unwanted pregnancies, and wasted lives. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why is Bush pushing social policies that harm our children?
26. Bush Failed to Provide Promised Funding to Fight Global AIDS:
Bush promised to fight the spread of global AIDS but failed to provide the necessary funding. Meanwhile, 14 million people will die from AIDS next year. For the fiscal year 2004, the Bush administration has committed only $200 million to the global fund to fight AIDS. Meanwhile, it is spending $100-200 billion to rebuild and export democracy to Iraq. “These are grotesquely distorted priorities.”
– Miami Herald, October 1, 2003, USA Today, September 14, 2003.
Why is Bush withholding the federal funds so desperately needed to combat the devastating global AIDS epidemic?
27. Bush is Waging War on the Environment:
Bush elevated the sophistication of political rhetoric by calling environmentalists “green, green, lima beans.” He refuses to enforce environmental law, he is waging war on our environment by dismantling sections of landmark environmental legislation, including the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, and he is supporting oil and mineral exploration in environmentally sensitive areas. He practices double speak by calling his anti-environment programs things like “healthy forests,” and “clear skies,” when, in fact, these programs are intentionally designed to destroy our wilderness areas and pollute our air and water. Other than a few giant corporations, no American benefits from Bush’s efforts to destroy our environmental standards. Under Bush, environmental violation notices have dropped 50% from the monthly average under Clinton, and punishment by fine or prosecution has fallen 28%. –Knight Ridder/Tribune, December 9, 2003.
- See www.nrdc.org for a comprehensive view of the Bush War on the Environment.
Why does Bush favor the interests of environmental polluters over those of the vast majority of the American people? The answer is clear. The environmental polluters pay huge bribes (called campaign contributions) to Bush and his cronies.Why does Bush expect that the American people will continue to allow him to poison our air and water and destroy our wilderness areas?
28. Bush Lied to Us about Iraq and then Used Our Soldiers as Backdrops for His
Re-election Propaganda Stunts:
“The poor go to war, to fight and die for the delights, riches, and superfluities of others.”
- Plutarch, Greek historian.
On Thanksgiving Day, 2003, Bush sneaked into Baghdad Airport to share a meal with our soldiers. The soldiers he visited were declared off limits to the press and ordered to vocalize their support for Bush. As matters turned out, the turkey he posed with was as plastic as his campaign stunt, and many soldiers refused their meals. Bush spent only 2 ½ hours acting out this taxpayer financed pre-election propaganda stunt and then sneaked back into America without even a glance at the devastations his elective war has wrought on the Iraqi people (well over 10,000 innocent people maimed and murdered). While there, he lied to our soldiers about their mission saying, “You are defeating the terrorists here in Iraq so that we don’t have to face them in our own country.”
In an earlier episode, in May 2003, Bush staged a chauffeured landing on the USS Abraham Lincoln, an aircraft carrier anchored just off California. There he prematurely announced victory in Iraq when, in fact, we have lost more soldiers after his announcement than before it. When Salon reporter Eric Boehlert asked Senator Max Cleland (a real war hero) what he thought of the Bush campaign stunt he responded, “I’ll tell you the truth, I thought, oh my God, a man who deliberately got out of going to Vietnam by hiding out in the National Guard and who did not even complete his National Guard tour of duty, now walks onto an aircraft carrier in a flight suit with helmet under his arm, as if he’s Tom Cruise in Top Gun.”
Retired four-star General Anthony Zinni said, “The more I saw, the more I thought this war was the product of the neocons who didn’t understand the region and who were going to create havoc there. These were dilettantes from Washington think tanks who never had an idea that worked on the ground.” – Washington Post, December 22, 2003.
“I think the American people were conned into this war.” – Chicago Tribune, December 31, 2003.
Recently, a scathing report released by the U.S. Army War College called the Bush War of Terror “unfocused” and the Bush invasion of Iraq a disastrous “strategic error.”
– Jeffery Record for the U.S. Army War College’s Strategic Studies Institute, December 2003.
Why won’t Bush behave like a real president and use the billion plus he spent on these propaganda stunts to fight AIDS, or help the homeless, or bring the survival equipment that our soldiers need up-to-date? Why did he lie to our soldiers about their mission?
The truth is that it was Saudi Arabia and not Iraq that was home to most of the 9/11 terrorists and their primary financier. On Election Day our soldiers will punish Bush for unnecessarily sending them into harms way and for his continuing shabby treatment of them. On Election Day the American people will punish Bush for his many lies, deceptions, failure to protect us, and his brutal crimes against humanity.
29. Bush and Cheney Want to Place WMD in Outer Space:
Bush plans for a piloted mission to Mars are no joke. But Bush could care less about space exploration. His space plans have a nefarious purpose. Bush wants to “use the heavens for military, economic, and strategic gain.” – Reuters, January 18, 2004.
U.S. space pioneer John Glenn said the Bush space plan “pulls the rug out from under our scientists.” He questioned the efficacy of using the moon as a stepping stone to Mars.
-March 4, 2004 comments on MSNBC.
Why is Bush busily converting the peaceable exploration of space into a nightmarish “War of the Worlds” scenario? Bush is by far the most dangerous man on earth and must be stopped before it is too late. The militarization of space is an un-Christian undertaking and could lead to genocidal consequences. Is Bush insane? Why would any sane person give priority to placing weapons in space over and above spending for the health, education, and welfare of the American people?
30. Bush and Cheney’s Foreign Policy is Creating Global Terror and Instability:
Bush and Cheney say that America needs no “permission slip” from the United Nations to launch a war against any nation he deems objectionable (a policy very similar to those of Hitler and Stalin). –Bush State of the Union address, 2004.
It is just this sort of arrogant braggadocio that has substantially heightened global instability and American insecurity. Bush pre-emptive wars and his withdrawal of America from many important longstanding treaty obligations, far more than any other president in U.S. history, has created in most European countries an image of America as a war-mongering rogue state. The vast majority of the world’s people and most heads of state were against the Bush-led invasion of Iraq. Much of the world now considers America the greatest threat to world peace. A recent Gallup Poll found that 55% of Brits feel that way and a BBC survey found that 60% of Indonesians, 71% of Jordanians, and 25% of Canadians share that view. – BBC, February 11, 2003.
Why won’t Bush get it? Why doesn’t he understand that acts of terror are the acts of desperate people, and not the acts of nation states. Finding and punishing terrorists requires police action, not military action. As long as there are desperate people there will be terrorists. To reduce global terrorism we must reduce global desperation, and not, as Bush does, incite and inflame it. To reduce global terrorism requires a concerted effort with our allies.
31. Bush Lies about the Invasion of Iraq are a Substantial Stain on America:
Bush lies are a substantial stain on America. Bush squandered America’s entire stock of global empathy and goodwill following 9/11 by invading Iraq under false pretenses, in violation of international law, and without the approval of the United Nations. Bush has repeatedly lied to the American people about almost everything. At first, following the lead of Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz (who acts more like a Mossad agent than an American deputy secretary of defense), Bush said Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD) posed an imminent danger to America. When no WMD were found, he said we invaded Iraq so that we could install democracy there, as if democracy were just another American export product. – Washington Post, September 11, 2003.
– For a comprehensive list of Bush lies see hundreds of them at www.now.org.
Why does Bush so often lie to the American people? Why did Bush use 9/11 as a pretense for invading Iraq? Why did Bush not concentrate instead on crushing Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda terrorist network and on shoring up America’s domestic defenses, ports, reactors, chemical plants, and the like? Bush say he wants to export democracy to Iraq and the rest of the Middle East. The truth is different. The only things Bush has exported to the Middle East is the mass murder of innocent Iraqis, American taxpayer money, the American military, Halliburton, and Bechtel.
32. Bush and Cheney Deliberately Spread Hatred, Fear, and Loathing in
America:
Bush and Cheney, through the Department of Homeland Security, has repeatedly announced a series of false terrorist threats that unnecessarily spread fear and loathing throughout America. Bush does this for the sole purpose of terrorizing Americans into thinking his government is working hard to protect them. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why does Bush think the American people are so easily hoodwinked? The facts speak for themselves. Bush knew about 9/11 before it happened and he failed to take action. The major terrorists are in the White House and most of the world now thinks that America is a terrorist nation led by insecure adolescent bullies.
33. Bush is Deliberately Rescinding the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights:
Bush has said that the terrorists want to take away our freedoms. Our course, it would be impossible for foreign terrorists to do that. But Bush, Ashcroft, and their neocon cohorts have done just that; they have soiled our Constitution and our Bill of Rights. These anti-democrats, posing as super-patriots, have even sent secret service agents to interrogate high school students for wearing anti-war t-shirts. Bush rammed the USA Patriot Act (that authorizes domestic spying, warrantless searches and seizures, and long-term detention without being charged with a crime or the right to counsel) through a 9/11-numbed Congress, thus dealing the greatest blow to civil and human rights ever experienced in America.
- See www.aclu.org for a detailed elaboration of the Bush war on our civil rights.
Why does Bush think the American people will allow him another four years to finish the job of transforming America into a full fascist state run by neocons for the sole benefit of the wealthy?
34. Bush and Cheney’s Iraqi War Planning is a Catastrophic Blunder:
Bush and Cheney preemptively invaded Iraq under false pretenses and without an exit strategy, catastrophic blunders (or were they intentional) that are now costing hundreds of American lives, thousands of American casualties, thousands of Iraqi lives, and hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars. A recent poll taken by an Iraqi research center shows fewer than 15% of Iraqis view the U.S. as a liberator, down from 43% six months ago. Ever since Vietnam American war planners were under strict orders to establish clearly defined war objectives, to minimize risks for American soldiers, to minimize civilian casualties, to avoid nation building, and to plan a clearly defined exit strategy.
- USA Today, October 2, 2003.
Why did Bush ignore long-established war planning priorities in the case of Iraq? Why did it take 150,000 soldiers and tens of thousands of deaths and casualties to capture Saddam Hussein? Why didn’t Bush realize, as so many did, that Saddam Hussein posed no threat to America, and that the invasion of Iraq served only to reduce our efforts to destroy al Qaeda, increase the treat of terrorist attacks, and stretch our military resource to the point of breaking?
35. Bush War Talk is Schoolyard Bully Boy Arrogance:
Bush told all other nations “you are either with us or …with the terrorists,” thus reducing the art of American diplomacy to the sort of catchy sound bite characteristic of the language used by schoolyard bullies. If Bush really believed what he said, he would have attacked Saudi Arabia and not Iraq. It was predominantly Saudis who planned and executed 9/11, and there is much evidence linking the Saudi royals to the financing of global terrorism. Of course, long-standing Bush family ties to the Saudi royals had nothing to do with Bush’s decision. – St. Petersburg Times, May 9, 2002.
Why is Bush letting his family’s oil connections affect his decision making? Why is Bush, who attended Andover (an elite prep school), Yale, and Harvard (elite universities), using the language of thugs, and why has he set out to destroy America’s long-standing relationships with our major allies? With his arrogant war talk, Bush plays on and contributes to the dumbing-down of America.
36. Bush and Cheney Failed to Capture Osama bin Laden and Defeat al Qaeda:
Bush and Cheney handed global terrorists victories by failing to capture Osama bin Laden, failing to defeat al Qaeda, needlessly invading Iraq, spreading fear in America, and by failing to protect Americans from future acts of terrorism. These failures and the unnecessary placing of our troops in harms way in Iraq have led to the needless death and suffering of thousands of innocent people, and an ever-mounting federal deficit that is destroying America. Meanwhile, al Qaeda has regrouped; it is deploying more terrorists and launching more terrorist attacks than ever; and it is poised to topple the neocon installed puppet governments in Iraq and Afghanistan. – Reuters, October 15, 2003.
CIA Director George Tenet says the Bush administration has failed to defeat al Qaeda.
–Oral testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, February 24, 2004.
FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III says another major al Qaeda terrorist strike against America is “quite probable.” – New York Times, January, 15, 2004.
Why won’t Bush come clean about his family’s 25-year business relationship with the bin Laden family and other Saudi financiers of terrorism?
37. Bush, Shortly After 9/11, Helped the bin Laden Family and Numerous other
Saudi Financiers of Terror Flee America :
Bush, with the help of the U.S. State Department, secretly spirited approximately 140 Saudis, including members of the bin Laden family, out of the U.S. shortly after 9/11.
– Sources are too numerous to list.
Why did Bush aide and abet some of the very people who may have played a role in planning and executing the 9/11 attack on America? Why weren’t the Saudis at least held and questioned? Did Bush family business ties to the bin Laden family, and the Saudi Royals generally, prove more influential than the national security of the American people?
38. Bush Undercuts our Soldiers by Slashing Veteran’s Benefits and by Treating
Them as Slaves:
Bush has blocked the retirement of over 40,000 soldiers and slashed funds for veterans’ health care. He has also raised the eligibility requirements for active duty soldiers and their families to receive benefits. Former POW’s from the 1991 Gulf War sued and won damages from Iraq. Now Bush is trying to rescind the damages award, saying the money is needed to rebuild Iraq. – Washington Post, July 30, 2003.
Bush has also proposed shrinking the number of military personnel who qualify for disability benefits. – Associated Press, September 12, 2003.
Seriously wounded soldiers returning from Iraq, including many who have lost limbs, are receiving medical discharges and loss of benefits. – David Gorman, executive director of Disable American Veterans, in an interview with CBS News correspondent David Martin, December 18, 2003.
Why does Bush treat our veterans like slaves and like so much cannon fodder? If Bush were a real veteran, instead of a deserter, his empathy for the soldiers whose lives he places in harms way would be greater.
39. Bush is Highly Antagonistic to Working People and their Unions:
Bush, responding to giant corporate contributors, issued anti-worker, anti-union executive orders that end protections covering the “working poor;” that abolish labor-management partnerships between federal workers and the government; that bar project labor agreements on federally funded construction projects; and by requiring government contractors to post notices telling employees they need not join unions.
- AFL-CIO, September 15, 2003.
Bush also raised the pay of 2,100 Republican political appointees and froze part of the pay raise of 1.8 million federal civilian employees. – Washington Post, December 5, 2002.
Why does Bush treat working people with such animosity and how could he justify freezing the pay of federal workers while at the same time granting enormous tax giveaways to his wealthy campaign contributors?
40. Bush Elective Wars are Ungodly and Un-Christian:
Bush and other neocons posture as deeply religious Christians and Jews, yet they daily disrespect religious doctrine and the teachings of Jesus by pursuing war instead of peace. Targeting the Iraqi leadership, U.S. Air Force and Army units fired over 13,000 cluster bombs on Iraq, containing nearly two million sub-munitions. The cluster bombs led to the death or maiming of over 1,000 innocent people without achieving the main objective.
– USA Today, December 11, 2003, BBC, December 15, 2003.
Why are we allowing natural born killers posing as religious fundamentalists to soil our nation and destroy our reputation abroad by fighting elective wars that murder countless innocent women and children?
41. Bush is Deliberately Starving State and Local Governments:
Bush has made draconian cuts in federal funds for vital state and local services to disadvantaged and needy people, deviously labeling the cuts as necessary to reduce the Republican-created deficit. Bush promised $7 billion to help hard-pressed state and local governments for costs related to 9/11 but has yet to deliver a single penny.
- Seattle Post Intelligencer, February 10, 2003.
Why are we spending hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars to install unwanted democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan while Bush, Ashcroft, and their neocon cohorts destroying democracy in America?
42. Bush Favors Political Fundraising Over Attending the Funerals of the
Soldiers who Died Fighting His Disastrous Elective War in Iraq:
Bush has attended over 40 political fundraisers in 2003, but he did not honor any of the hundreds U.S. soldiers who lost their lives fighting his elective wars by attending their funerals. – New York Times, November 5, 2003, and Op-Ed by Maureen Dowd, November 6, 2003.
Bush will raise $300-$400 million in campaign funds to finance the cover-up of his fraudulent wars, his failed domestic and foreign policies, and his failed presidency. The list of Bush top fundraisers, called “Rangers” and “Pioneers”, reads like a Who’s Who guide to those who receive the greatest favors from Bush, including Carlyle Group executives, numerous high-level political appointees, and, of course, the energy industry.
- If you have a strong stomach, see www.whitehouseforsale.org for a detailed list of the top donors to the Bush re-election campaign, and a partial list of what they receive for their generosity.
Why won’t Bush try acting like a real president and run on his record instead of selling access to the White House to finance TV ads designed to cover-up his many failures and crimes against humanity?
43. Bush as Lord High Executioner:
Bush, as governor of Texas, presided over more executions than any other governor in American history did. His elective wars are responsible for the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of American soldiers and countless thousands of innocent Iraqis and Afghanis. Bush has many fundamental character flaws and unresolved issues from his pre-political life, but none is as serious or as threatening to America’s national security and achieving a peaceable world as his penchant for mass murder. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why does Bush think that Americans will continue to support the mass murder of thousands of innocent people for the sole purpose of further enriching his already campaign contributors?
44. Bush Anti-Science Policies are Retarding Scientific Research:
Bush is hindering research into finding cures for major diseases by overly restricting stem cell research. He lied to the American people by saying there were 60 stem cell lines available to researchers when there were actually only 11. About the Bush obstructions of scientific research, The House Government Reform Committee concluded, “these actions go far beyond the typical shifts in policy that occur with a change in the political party occupying the White House.”
- Los Angeles Times, October 5, 2003, American Medical News, September 1, 2003.
Why has Bush let his personal religious beliefs interfere with scientific research that could lead to cures for many major diseases?
45. Bush and Cheney Stole One Election: Are They Planning to Perpetrate Yet
Another Fraud on the American Electorate?
Bush, Cheney and their neocon cronies removed thousands of likely Gore voters from Florida’s voter rolls, a crime that enabled him to win Florida and steal the 2000 presidential election. Bush has also encouraged anti-democratic campaign fundraising and special interest lobbying practices, practices that are really nothing but the flagrant bribery of government policy and decision makers by special interest groups. One such heavy Bush contributor is Diebold, makers of highly flawed paperless voting machines. These machines are easily manipulated, and could be used by Bush to steal another election.
The Diebold voting machines were honored by Fortune Magazine as the worst technology of 2003. – Fortune Magazine, December 15, 2003.
Recently, Bush Attorney General John Ashcroft was fined for improprieties that occurred when he campaigned and lost his bid to become governor of Missouri in 2000. As Attorney General, he has whittled 11,000 election fraud complaints down to five potential lawsuits. USA Today, July 9, 2002.
Why did Bush ever think that his miserable career as a Texas oilman and disastrous reign as governor of Texas qualified him to run for the U.S. presidency? Why have so many special interest groups rallied behind Bush? Will Bush attempt to steal yet another election in 2004?
46. Bush and Cheney have Lost their Self-Proclaimed Global War of Terror:
Bush promised to protect the world from terrorists but he has accomplished precisely the opposite. Since he initiated his global War of Terror, terrorist attacks have increased over 500%. For every terrorist that is captured or killed, ten new terrorists rise to take their place. Iraq, Afghanistan and many other countries are overflowing with terrorists who are now more desperate than ever and more committed to killing innocent people to achieve an end to the oppression they perceive emanates from America and its allies. Throughout the New Year holiday season 2003, many months after Bush prematurely announced victories over Osama bib Laden and Iraq, America remained on high terrorist attack alert.
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why is Bush spending hundreds of billions of dollars fighting a ridiculous War of Terror that he cannot win? As Bush raises military spending, our national security drops. Who, but Bush, could accomplish that feat?
47. Bush War Spending is Counterproductive:
Bush spending for his global War of Terror and the invasion, rebuilding, and occupation of Iraq is bankrupting America, but it does enrich his family and campaign donors who reap staggering profits from Bush militarism. Spending on Iraq alone could exceed $1 trillion over the next ten years. Just 1/10 of that amount would provide medical care for 30 million children, or a real prescription drug benefit for seniors, or 1.5 million housing units for the poor, or 1.4 million new schoolteachers. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
The Congressional Budget Office says the cost of the Iraqi occupation may run to as much as $200 billion in just four years. – New York Times, November 1, 2003.
Why does Bush not realize that terrorism is a tactic used by desperate people, not nations, who develop an extreme hatred for the leaders of those nations they come to believe are oppressing them and their religious values by promoting the interests of giant multi-national corporations (so-called economic globalization) over all other interests. When will Bush realize that his War of Terror is entirely counterproductive, playing right into the hands of the terrorists by spreading fear throughout America, by diverting funds from vital federal, state and local services, by undermining longstanding relationships with our major allies, and by creating a dynamic that encourages the financiers and recruiters of terrorists.
48. Bush and Cheney will Say and Do Anything to Avoid Defeat in 2004:
Bush refused to comment when General Tommy Franks, the man he appointed to plan and execute the invasion of Iraq, said that any future terrorist attacks on the U.S. would lead to the suspension of our Constitution and to military rule. Bush has issued Executive Orders that will let him control of all modes of mass transportation, shut down the mass media, take control of the electric grid an our natural resources, take over our farms and supermarkets, dictate what your children are taught in school, and plenty more.
- General Tommy Franks in a November interview that appears in Cigar Aficionado.
Why did General Franks make that comment? What does he know that we do not know? Is Bush planning to invoke martial law if he appears headed for defeat? Even worse, is he capable of staging a terrorist attack to help prevent defeat in 2004? Or even worse, did he stage a terrorist attack to justify launching his invasion of Iraq and the Middle East?
49. Bush seeks to Crush Dissent in America # 1 (USA Patriot Act}:
Bush uses the USA Patriot Act and many supplemental Executive Orders to chill dissent and our right to freely assemble by directing the FBI to investigate individuals and groups who oppose his elective wars. He uses TV ads to smear as unpatriotic anyone who protests his blatant militarism. Bush has expanded the role of the U.S. military to include domestic spying on American citizens, a mission unprecedented in America’s history, and he has created a U.S. Northern Command whose primary mission is fighting on American soil. Hundreds of American cities have already adopted laws opposing the anti-democratic USA Patriot Act. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why has Bush set out to destroy democratic dissent in America? Why does Bush not say that he will never personally profit from his elective wars? Why is Bush ordering the shooting of peaceful protestors in Iraq? Is that his idea of exporting democracy?
50. Bush seeks to Crush Dissent in America # 2 (First Amendment):
Bush is suppressing the First Amendment right to peaceful protest by forcing peace protestors into so-called “Free Speech Zones.” Citizens carrying pro-Bush signs are permitted to line the streets and gather in public places, while those who protest Bush militarism are forcibly moved to “Free Speech Zones.” These zones are selected to hide the protesters and their anti-Bush messages from public view, TV cameras, and the press.
- Billings Gazette, November 29, 2003
Why is Bush so fearful of peaceful protest? Does he know that when Americans learn his true motives they will drive him from the presidency with more vigor than ever experienced in any prior presidential election?
51. Bush sends U.S. Reserve Units into Action without Proper Equipment:
Bush ordered American reserve units into action in Iraq without upgrading their equipment to the level of protection afforded regular Army units.
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why has Bush pushed tax giveaways for the wealthy when the soldiers he orders into harms way are ill equipped? Why is he ruining the lives of regular soldiers, reservists, and the National Guard for reasons he has yet to clarify? Is it an act of treason if a U.S. president orders our soldiers into harms way under false premises, solely to enrich his friends and supporters?
52. Bush has Appointed a Cabinet of, by, and for the Wealthy:
Bush has installed the wealthiest cabinet in U.S. history and has devoted his presidency to attending to the affairs of those who are already wealthy. To thank Bush for his efforts on behalf of the oil industry, Chevron named an oil tanker after his top national security advisor, Condoleeza Rice. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why is Bush always concerned with pleasing the wealthy and unconcerned about the needs of working people, retirees, veterans, women, the physically challenged, the unemployed and underemployed, and those who are otherwise suffering? Why would the American people vote for a man who represents the interests of less than 1% of Americans while intentionally making policy that punishes over 99% of Americans?
53. Bush Spends Big for Bombs while Slashing Vital Programs for the Needy:
Bush expanded weapons spending (including vast new funding for the research and development of new nuclear weapons) beyond anything needed for real national security for the sole purpose of enriching family and friends. On Christmas Day 2003, even after the capture of Saddam Hussein, Americans are warned that al Qaeda is plotting holiday season attacks that will rival or exceed 9/11. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why won’t Bush realize that real national security includes economic security and expanding instead of contracting our civil and human rights? Under Bush America is less secure than ever in her history and the invasion of Iraq has intensified our vulnerability to terrorist attack at least one thousand fold.
54. Bush Denies Millions of Americans Access to Necessary Medical Care:
Bush ignores the needs of 45 million Americans, mostly women and children, who
cannot afford health insurance and has presided over more foreclosures than any other president in U.S. history. Recently, he relaxed rules that require hospitals to examine and treat people who require emergency medical care regardless of their ability to pay, making it easy for hospitals to turn away anyone who is uninsured.
- New York Times, September 2, 2003.
Why does Bush, and Republicans generally, fail to grasp the reality that America can never be considered a great nation, when, unlike every other modern industrial nation, we deny access to necessary medical care, prescription drugs, and housing to those amongst us who need help? One of the very top priorities of the Democrat who unseats Bush must be the immediate provision of health insurance for those who are not now protected.
55. Bush has Set Out to Destroy America’s Middle Income Earners:
Bush jobs creation strategy is a page out of the Wal-Mart playbook. Under Bush’s Wal-Mart type jobs plan, full-time jobs with livable wages and benefits are increasingly replaced with low-paying jobs with no benefits and more than 7.5 million Americans must work two or more jobs just to stave off homelessness. –Seattle Times, December 10, 2003.
Under Bush, America has shed over 3 million jobs, many of them exported (outsourced) by giant corporations to cheap labor markets. Bush is the worst jobs president in U.S. history, in percentage terms, twice as bad as Herbert Hoover was.
- AFL-CIO, August 5, 2003.
The prolonged labor slump under Bush has pushed millions of job seekers into the ranks of the permanently unemployed. With these people added to the 8.8 million still looking for jobs, the unemployment rate in America climbs to 7.4%. – www.jobwatch.org.
Why does Bush find it necessary to transform America into a banana republic? Why won’t Bush support extending unemployment benefits for the over 90,000 jobless workers who each week exhaust their existing benefits. By the end of January 2004, because of Bush’s refusal to extend federal benefits another ½ million Americans will be verging on homelessness. By refusing to extend unemployment benefits, Bush is attempting to deceive us into thinking there are far fewer unemployed people than is actually the case.
56. Bush has Set Out to Destroy What is Left of Our Free Press:
Bush aided and abetted the consolidation of the mass media so that a few billionaires now control what is euphemistically called America’s “free press.” William Colby, former Director of the CIA, once said that there was no major player in the mass media that is not controlled by the CIA. Recently, a Washington Post reporter confessed to being duped into believing that Bush’s invasion of Iraq had anything to do with protecting our national security. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why does Bush want our media controlled by a few right-wing billionaires?
57. Bush has Set Out to Destroy the Separation of Church and State:
Bush has engaged in a continuing war against the bedrock American principle of separating church from state by attempting to transform our public schools into houses of worship and funding faith-based organizations with taxpayer dollars.
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why does Bush believe, as he has often stated, that he is doing God’s work? God condemns killing and killers.
58. Bush Regularly Violates International Law:
Bush violated two international laws (The Hague Regulations of 1907 and the Geneva Convention of 1949), as well as the U.S. Army Code of War, by ignoring the Iraqi Constitution, which forbids the privatization of key state assets and bars foreigners from owning Iraqi firms. Bush could be tried as a war criminal.
- Los Angeles Times, October 5, 2003.
Why did Bush transform America from a nation that respected international law to a nation that ignores international law?
59. Bush has Failed to Prosecute most Giant Corporate Crime:
Bush is actively aiding and abetting the expansion of the anti-democratic powers of giant multinational corporations, and he has repeatedly failed to prosecute gross corporate criminality, criminality that has cost millions of Americans their jobs, their pensions, and made major dents in their investment portfolios. – Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why does Bush think Americans will forget that he has failed to punish giant corporate criminality? Under Bush, Wal-Mart commits tens of thousands of child-labor crimes and goes unpunished; meanwhile a father who stole a Cinderella video for his daughter is serving a life term. Something very troubling is happening in America.
60. Bush has an Energy Bill that only Energizes Energy Company Profits:
Bush had Cheney craft an energy bill that entirely failed to address America’s strategic need to become energy independent but does provide $18.7 in tax breaks to the full array of Republican-run energy companies. Fortunately, the bill, crafted by Cheney in collusion with representatives of the energy industry, failed to win Senate approval. Amongst other things, the Bush/Cheney energy bill provides no scientific basis for the continuing expansion of fossil and nuclear fuel supplies; it also fails to address the potential for energy efficiency from renewable energy sources, and fails to provide incentives for the development of energy-efficient technologies.
- Seattle Post Intelligencer, April 15, 2003.
Why did the Republican dominated Congress turn against the Bush/Cheney energy plan? Why…because even some neocon Republicans could not condone yet another looting of the U.S. Treasury by Bush. Cheney is still stonewalling federal investigators who seek to learn the details of the collaboration between Cheney and energy industry representatives and the French government is considering indicting him for crimes allegedly committed while he was CEO at Halliburton. Why is Bush manipulating the strategic oil reserve to enhance energy industry profits?
61. Bush Enters the California Gubernatorial Recall Election:
Bush aided and abetted the recall of Governor Gray Davis in hopes of winning California’s 55 electoral votes in the 2004 presidential election.
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why Bush and Rove engineered the recall election is no secret. Bush knows he cannot win re-election in 2004 without help from California.
62. Bush—Rugged Individualist, or a Military Deserter and a Spoiled Brat:
Bush promotes himself as a self-made rugged individualist when, in fact, his entire education and career were built on the use of his father’s name to gain entry into Harvard and Yale, and to attract large sums of investment capital. Bush portrayed himself as a Texas rancher when even his wife refers to him as a “windshield cowboy.”
– Sources are far too numerous to list.
Why did any American ever cast a vote for such a complete phony? While Bush shreds our Constitution fighting his self-inflicted War of Terror, and pursues nation building in Afghanistan and Iraq instead of here at home, many Republicans are now saying they are embarrassed and are voting for Democrats in 2004.
63. Bush Prefers Rebuilding Iraq and Halliburton to Rebuilding America; He and Cheney Awarded No-Bid Contracts to Halliburton to Service American Soldiers in Iraq Long before the Invasion of Iraq was Announced.
Bush and Cheney destroyed the infrastructure of Iraq, and long before the invasion was announced they committed hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars to rebuilding it; meanwhile, America’s crumbling infrastructure is ignored. - The extreme depth of Republican war profiteering and corruption is depicted in a 48-minute documentary, Exposed: The Carlyle Group, available at www.informationclearinghouse.info.
Why did Bush destroy so much of Iraq’s infrastructure, including thousands of schools and hospitals? Did Bush drop 13,000 cluster bombs on the Iraqi people to protect our troops or so that billions of dollars in no-bid contracts could be awarded to war-profiteers like Halliburton and war investors like the Carlyle Group? Why was Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown & Root handed a no-bid contract to service our troops in Iraq over a year before the invasion of Iraq? Why did Halliburton overcharge U.S. taxpayers over $23 million for the meals it delivered to our soldiers? Why does Halliburton, after allegedly defrauding American taxpayers nearly $50 million dollars under three no-bid contracts for services in Iraq, continue to receive no-bid contracts from Bush and Cheney?
64. Bush Friends Stuff their Pockets with War Profits:
Bush has created numerous opportunities for Republican-run companies to profit from his disastrous pre-emptive war policy. An example of Republican war profiteering is Halliburton (Cheney’s old company), which has charged the U.S. Army in Iraq nearly $2.64 a gallon for gas that they could purchase from Iraqis for five to ten cents a gallon. Early government audits have already uncovered some $70 million in overcharges.
- Associated Press, October 15, 2003, - New York Times, December 10, 2003.
Why does the U. S. Department of Justice not file charges against the Bush regime, and Halliburton, and why are impeachment proceedings not immediately commenced?
65. Bush White House Secrecy Exceeds All Reasonable Bounds:
Bush is making government as secretive as the CIA by removing millions of pages of important information on health, safety, and environmental matters from public view. By tightly controlling information throughout government, Bush hopes to shield himself from the rightful criticism his dangerous policies and actions deserve. When his Council of Economic Advisors showed that his so-called economic stimulus plan would actually kill far more jobs than it created, it was removed from the White House website.
- U.S. News and World Reports, December 12, 2003, New York Times, Op-Ed, William Safire, December 17, 2003.
When the U.S. Agency for International Development stated that rebuilding Iraq would cost only $1.7 billion, perhaps the greatest understatement of costs in U.S. history—actual costs will exceed $100 billion—that too was ordered scrubbed from their website.
- Washington Post, December 17, 2003.
While the Bush White House works in strict secrecy, Republican staffers of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, have infiltrated the confidential computer files of senior Democratic senators and sent secret Democratic strategy memos to the Washington Times, the Wall Street Journal, and right-wing pundit Robert Novak. Republican Judiciary Chair Orrin Hatch said that he was “mortified that this improper, unethical, and simply unacceptable breach of confidential files occurred on my watch.”
– The Boston Globe, January 22, 2004.
Why is Bush, who as president is responsible for protecting our security, covering-up the information we need to know to protect ourselves? He does it to protect the interests of his campaign contributors. His actions are consistent with his ongoing cover-up of illegal White House activities, and his participation in the most massive White House campaign to obstruct justice in U.S. history. Every word uttered by Bush is but another Word of Mass Deception. The rampant criminality within the Bush White House and other neocon run political operations makes the Nixon-led Watergate crimes and cover-up that led his resignation seem petty.
***Nearly 80 years ago Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis wrote,
“Those who won our independence by revolution were not cowards…They did not exalt order at the cost of liberty…Those who won our independence understood that courage [is] the secret of liberty and fear [only] breeds repression.”
Were Justice Brandeis and our Founding Fathers alive today they would surely be horrified by the anti-democratic wars of oppression and terror launched by the Bush neocons against the people of the world.
“A nation’s greatness is not measured by how it further enriches the already rich: A nation’s greatness is measured by the way it cares for those in need, and by its contributions to creating peace on earth.”
